In the following interview, Bekki shares her thoughts and experiences, providing valuable insights into her career and the opportunities offered at JC Metalworks.
Time at JC Metalworks
How long have you been with JC Metalworks, and what has your primary role been during this time?
I have worked at JC for 8 years and 9 months. I was a Sales Administrator for 11 months before moving into the role of Estimator, which enabled me to gain the necessary experience to help me in my new role as an Account Manager.
How was your experience as an estimator? What were some of the key challenges and responsibilities you faced in this role?
During my time as an Estimator, I have developed a strong knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes. I have enjoyed the complexity of different enquiries and relish the fast-paced environment as no project is ever the same.
What were some of the most significant projects you were involved in as an estimator?
Over the years, I have been involved in quoting for many of our top customers. Some highlights for me have been acting as the primary estimator for customers supplying products in different sectors, such as logistical lockers and self-service kiosks. I also received positive feedback from customers regarding my communication skills and willingness to help in a timely manner.
Can you describe the company culture at JC Metalworks? What aspects of the culture have been most beneficial to your professional growth?
One of our company pillars is people power, the ability to recognise the strengths of employees and empower them to develop. This has been instrumental in the positivity given to help me become confident enough to apply for the Account Manager position.
Promotion to Account Manager
What motivated you to pursue the Account Manager role? What attracted you to this new position?
When the opportunity arose, it felt like a natural progression to develop my skills further with more in-depth customer interactions.
What are some of the challenges you anticipate in transitioning from estimation to sales? How will you address these challenges?
As an Account Manager, no two days are the same, so being adaptable to changing needs and seeing the full picture is key.
Can you describe the new responsibilities you will have as an Account Manager? How do these responsibilities differ from your previous role as an estimator?
I have a portfolio of customers to whom I will be the main point of contact, maintain regular communication, resolve concerns, and liaise with other departments to ensure the customers’ needs are met.
What are your strengths in sales? How do you plan to develop your sales skills in your new role?
My strengths are my customer focus, organisation, and communication skills. Areas for growth are taking a more proactive approach to sales strategies.
What are your goals and expectations for your performance as an account manager? How do you measure success in this role?
My goals as an Account Manager are to build successful relationships and to maximise opportunities. This is measured on customer satisfaction and the growth of the business.
Transition from Estimation to Sales
How do you plan to leverage your estimation experience in your new role as an account manager? What knowledge and skills from your previous role will be most valuable?
My strong understanding of sheet metal processes will help me to understand project briefs and suggest cost effective solutions to our customers as well as follow up and analysis of quotes.
What strategies will you employ to build strong relationships with customers?
I strongly believe the best way of building strong relationships is open and honest communication, building transparency and a mutual respect between both parties.
How do you approach problem-solving in a sales context? What strategies do you use to address customer concerns and objections?
Actively listening and acknowledging the customers concerns, validating the concern, asking the right questions, and producing solutions to help solve the problem.
Outside work, what do you like doing?
When not working I enjoy spending time with my family, baking, going for walks, being involved in our church, and singing.
Can you tell us a bit about your family?
I am married to a wonderful husband, we have 3 beautiful children, 2 daughters and 1 son, we enjoy travelling.
