Tungsten inert gas welding, commonly known as TiG welding, is a core part of our metal welding capability. Here at JC Metalworks, TiG welding is most often used for the fabrication of Aluminium, Copper, Brass, Stainless Steel & Mild Steel sheet, tube and wire where high level of strength and control is required.
Here at JC Metalworks we employ a highly-skilled and experienced team of metal welders and fabricators with the skills and capability to carry out Tungsten Inert Gas welding, a technique which is widely used in the metal welding and fabrication industry.
TiG welding is an arc welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld. Tungsten Inert Gas welding is most commonly used to weld thin sections of stainless steel and non-ferrous metals such as Aluminium, Magnesium and Copper alloys such as Brass. The process gives the operator greater control over the weld than competing processes such as MiG welding, allowing for stronger, higher quality welds.
Tungsten Inert Gas welding is comparatively more complex and difficult to master and is slower than most other metal welding techniques. However, for those precision finish, high quality products made from mild steal that need an exceptionally neat weld TiG welding is superb!

Metal Inert Gas (MiG) welding is a welding process in which an electric arc forms between a consumable wire electrode and the workpiece metal(s), which heats the workpiece metal(s) causing them to melt and join.
Originally developed in the 1940’s for welding Aluminium and other non-ferrous materials MiG was soon applied to steels because it provided faster welding time compared to other welding processes. Further developments in the 1950’s and 1960’s gave the process more versatility and as a result it became highly used in industrial processes. Today MiG is the most common industrial welding process, preferred for its versatility and speed.
Typically Spot welding is used where the metal sheets are in the 0.5 – 3mm thickness range. The process uses two shaped copper alloy electrodes to concentrate the welding current into a small ‘spot’ and to simultaneously clamp the sheets together. Forcing a large current through the ‘spot’ will melt the metal and form the weld. The attractive feature of spot welding is that a lot of energy can be delivered to the spot in a very short time (10 – 100 milliseconds). This allows the welding to occur without excessive heating to the remainder of the sheet.
Typical examples of products created using Tungsten Inert Gas welding include the manufacture of point of sale units and retail fixtures, HVAC systems, electrical enclosures and metal cabinets along with lighting systems.
