Sheet Metal Punching

Sheet Metal Punching (Cutting)

punching

Sheet metal punching and laser cutting equally form the second (cutting) stage of the sheet metal manufacturing process at our Loughborough, Leicestershire based metal works.

As part of the sheet metal cutting stage, a piece of sheet metal is cut into a specified flat shape ready for further precision manufacturing stages.

During the design and precision engineering phase, our design engineers will work with you to create the design of your product. They will then decide the most cost-effective way to manufacture the item using our in house sheet metal manufacturing tools and services.

Benefits of sheet metal punching as part of the product manufacture

When cutting sheet metal, there are two options: laser cutting and sheet metal punching. Whilst laser cutting offers a precise and often highly specific sheet metal shape, punching can be a more-cost effective option when cutting more commonly-shaped products.

The setup for sheet metal punching is more extensive than laser cutting. However, due to the machine's automatic online tool changer, which has the capacity to hold up to 220 tools, the time needed for this stage is reduced, and cuts the costs for clients as a result.

The JC Metalworks' 'fast access' metal storage system allows for an even quicker manufacturing time for punching sheet metal. As a result, even small batch production can be cost-effective for clients.

JC Metalworks hosts state-of-the-art punching machinery in our Leicestershire-based precision engineering facility. It offers a high level of accuracy, a fast turn-around time and inexpensive punched sheet metal parts to create a final product that fits our clients’ exact specifications.

Once the client’s product is cut using either laser cutting or punching, it will move on to one of the following metal manufacturing services:

Our 7-Stage Metal Work & Product Manufacturing Process:

Once design and engineering has taken place, each product will be scheduled in for each of the manufacturing processes. As every product required is unique, the manufacturing process for that product will also be different.

A product can include Punching along with any or all of the following sheet metal precision manufacturing services:

  1. Design & Engineering
  2. Cutting or Punching
  3. Metal Forming
  4. Sheet Metal Fabrication
  5. Powder Coating
  6. Assembly
  7. Despatch

Examples of products created using these techniques and services include manufacture of point of sale units and retail fixtures, HVAC systems and electrical enclosures, along with lighting systems.
