Happy Retirement John!

John has been working at Loughborough College for the last five years and has seen all our apprentices through from start to finish. On Friday we wished him good luck in his retirement!
Here is what our apprentice, Theo Pritchard has to say about his apprenticeship:
“I have just completed the second year of my apprenticeship at JC Metalworks and will be progressing into the third and final year this September. I chose to pursue an apprenticeship in Engineering at JC Metalworks due to the opportunity to experience various areas of the business, including cutting, forming and fabrication.
During my first year of apprenticeship I underwent a rotation system internally where I spent two months in each of the five sections on the shop floor, as follows: Cutting, Forming, Fabrication, Powdercoat, and Assembly. This was to help increase my knowledge and understanding of the entire process that a manufactured part would go through on the shop floor.
Towards the end of my first year there was an opening for an apprentice to join the Design and Development team which I interviewed for and was fortunate enough to be successful. Ever since starting my apprenticeship here it was my intention to use the work experience to transition into a more design orientated role, so I jumped at the chance when the opportunity presented itself, thinking I might not get this opportunity until I was more experienced on the shop floor.
I have been in the Design and Development team for a year now and have been learning how to create 3D models of parts and 2D drawings in Solidworks as well as using Radan to create symbols and nests which are used by our laser and punch machines to cut parts. Furthermore, very recently I have been given the chance to spend a few months in the Estimating Department learning how to cost parts and produce quotes for customers. As you can see there is a lot of room to learn new skills here at JC Metalworks.
John was the Assessor for all the apprentices at JC Metalworks for the past four years. He was tasked with guiding and assisting us through the extra-curricular work we had to do for the college course whilst on the job. I found John to be very helpful with any questions or queries I had and he always made sure that we were up to date or ahead with any coursework that needed to be done. I wish John all the best in his retirement.”
