Talent is everywhere but all too often opportunity is not. We at JC Metalworks believe that excellent leadership is about building up the people around you: trusting them, empowering them, and ultimately enabling them to contribute their expertise so that the team can become instrumental in the growth of the company.

As a people and innovation driven business, we are dedicated to helping our employees realise their full potential. One of the strategy pillars of our business is People Power, which represents our philosophy of empowering our employees to progress their career whilst staying within our company. We offer them the freedom to decide their career moves. Some choose to move around, which might mean moving up or changing departments in order to try something more suitable, that best fits their individual abilities. Also, because we are focused on highly skilled specialist metal fabrication, we carry out a wide range of processes to which all of our employees become familiar with- cutting, forming, welding, powder coating, and assembly/dispatch –this helps them to choose and build a career in whichever area suits them best.

Many people’s careers are pre-determined by their qualifications and training. Whilst we fully appreciate the effort that goes into an employee acquiring the experience and technical skills to get the job done, we also believe that taking the next step when an opportunity comes your way is important. We strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment, where an employee’s attitude towards learning and delivering can help them progress. One such example is Jaymal , whose willingness to learn and ability to adapt have recently been rewarded.

Jaymal spent four years working as one of our Assembly Operatives. Throughout that time, his Team Leader Denver appreciated his enthusiasm and confidence, realising that he had more to offer to the company in addition to his role and responsibilities within the Assembly Department. So when he applied for an Estimator’s position, the management decided to give him a shot. He had earned this opportunity, and was a well-deserved candidate for the position.

Now, after six weeks’ training, Jaymal has become part of the Commercial Department. Although he is not professionally qualified for the role, we at JC understand that his years of experience in Assembly have enabled him to study drawings and all the processes involved in manufacturing. He has been able to adapt quickly, learning the latest software used for estimation.  His energy levels are impressive with a great attitude to match – his positive outlook and attitude towards work and life are infectious. He moves fast and loves to be busy. And by taking on this challenge, he has shown that he is willing to evolve.

This opportunity has boosted Jaymal’s confidence, and he has achieved a remarkable career progression, much more than he anticipated. His advice to others is that if you grab every opportunity to learn you will gain success. He truly believes people can succeed if they want something badly enough. He said “We should put the time in to learning all that we can. Knowledge and experience are power, which can even defy the professional qualifications. And if you get knocked down, get back up. Stay hungry for success.”

At JC Metalworks, we have a large number of employees who have achieved amazing opportunities within the company, experienced life changing moves and a progressive career. So many congratulations to Jaymal, who has been given a well-deserved opportunity to develop his career. It’s a testament to his hard work and commitment. His raw talent shines, and he smiles and says ‘Fantastic’ when anyone asks about his day!
